Description of what effects the edits/changes had on the original story/plot (opinion)

The dub changes(especially the added character) do tend to shift the story away from the original in parts, but the basic story seems to have been retained.

 Detailed description of video edits

According to Shawn, for the dubbed Ronin Warriors version little to no changes were made to the actual video content with the exception of the episodes all being reformatted to include three commercial breaks instead of two (1 after the opening sequence, another halfway through the episode, and the final one appearing just after the episode ended, but before the closing credits).

Detailed description of opening and ending changes

The subtitled Samurai Troopers version released by Bandai on DVD omitted the next episode previews that were present on the original broadcast and Japanese home video release.

The dubbed Ronin Warriors version (as broadcast on U.S. television and included on the Bandai DVDs) omitted the following:

  • The entire opening and ending sequences.
  • The Japanese title cards (with the exception of the first episode).
  • The episode recaps (although they started including them during the last few episodes of the dub, Graz created their own recaps using footage from previous episodes, for episodes #3-10).
  • The episode previews.
Detailed description of English dub changes

Various rewrites to the dialog have been reported, the most major being the mention of a character "Hariel", an imaginary character created by the toy company Playmates to sell the action figure of Ryo in the white Kikoutei armor.  According to the Ronin Warriors dub, Hariel was the name of the first Ronin Warrior.  The majority of the English dialog, while not exact, is pretty close to the original.

Detailed description of name and title changes
The title was changed to 'Ronin Warriors' for the edited dub.
